Supporting Children's Neurological Development with Evidence-Based Therapies

Paediatric Neurological Therapy now at Health Studio

Supporting Children's Neurological Development

At Health Studio, we are excited to introduce our Paediatric Neurological Program – a specialised program designed to support children with neurodevelopmental challenges through targeted, evidence-based therapies. Our interventions help children with physical and neurological developmental delays reach key milestones by improving executive functioning, emotional regulation, gross and fine motor skills, sensory processing, and body awareness.

Family-Centred Approach

We take a family-centered, evidence-based approach to help children overcome challenges and reach their full potential. This program isn’t just a service—it’s our commitment to supporting Townsville families with high-quality, accessible neuro-rehabilitation.

Comprehensive Assessments

We provide comprehensive assessments to develop personalised treatment plans, ensuring that each child receives tailored support to meet their unique needs.

Who Can We Help?

Our program is tailored for children facing a range of neurological and developmental conditions, including:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

At Health Studio we can help by designing targeted exercise programs to improve coordination, sensory processing, emotional regulation and executive functioning skills through evidence based interventions. Exercise programs are designed to improve overall gross motor skills and body awareness in children with ASD.

Development Delay & Coordination Disorders

Health Studio helps with Paediatric Neurological Therapy for Developmental Delay through tailored exercise programs addressing motor planning, balance  and strength based interventions to address posture and muscle tone. Exercise physiology can help improve overall coordination, gross motor skills, hand eye coordination and increase overall participation in children with coordination disorders.

ADHD

An Exercise Physiologist can offer structured exercise programs to improve focus, impulse control, and motor coordination in children with ADHD through high intensity exercise implementation. This can help with levels of hyperactivity and increase overall attention.

Cerebal Palsy

Exercise physiologists can offer individual exercise programs for individuals with Cerebral Palsy of all levels. Interventions can help address overall strength, flexibility, coordination, and gait, which enhances functional independence and mobility. Our specialised paediatric equipment can help assist children with difficulties undertake therapy with confidence and support.

Our Approach Includes

Vestibular System and Proprioception

Exercise Physiologists can improve children’s vestibular and proprioceptive systems through exercise based interventions. Exercise based therapy can assist the internal GPS for balance and spatial awareness, and the body’s sense of self in space. Through fun, tailored exercises, we help train these systems to improve a child’s balance, coordination, and body awareness, leading to greater functional independence and confidence.

Motor Skills and Coordination

An Exercise Physiologist helps children with neurological challenges by designing tailored exercise programs to improve their motor skills and coordination. This involves activities that develop both gross motor skills (like running and jumping), and integrate skills necessary for ball related sports, such as hand eye coordination. The overall goal is to help children perform daily tasks and participate in physical activities with others their age with greater confidence and independence.

Emotional Regulation and Executive Functioning

Evidence-based interventions are implemented by Exercise Physiologists to help with children’s emotional regulation skills, such as communicating their wants and needs, improving overall mood and ability to cope with daily stressors. Physical activity can also help improve executive functioning, the ability to perform multi-step tasks, ultimately improving their ability to undertake day to day skills with more independence.

Rhythmic Movements and Primitive Reflexes

An Exercise Physiologist helps children with neurological challenges by incorporating rhythmic movements into therapy. Rhythmic movements are gentle rocking, reflex integration movements, that stimulate neural pathways and promote learning, focus, emotional regulation, and improved foundational movement patterns. Exercise Physiologists also utilise Primitive reflexes to determine delays and deficits in children, such as impaired motor skills, proprioception, balance and posture. Integrating the appropriate reflexes can help mature overall motor planning, and emotional and cognitive functioning, and build the necessary skills for children their age.

Our Methods

An exercise physiologist guiding a young boy with neurological challenges through a balance exercise on sensory pads during a one-on-one therapy session.

One-on-One Clinic Sessions

Personalised therapy sessions in our clinic setting, utilising specialised equipment to target your child’s specific needs.

An exercise physiologist in a swimming pool helping a young boy with a neurological condition with hydrotherapy, using the water's buoyancy for support.

Hydrotherapy

Aquatic-based therapy in a warm water environment that supports movement, reduces pain, and enhances strength and coordination.

An exercise physiologist with a black shirt and red trim playing with a young child in their living room to improve motor skills and coordination.

Home-Based Support

Therapy strategies and activities designed for implementation at home, empowering families to support their child’s development.
