Type 2 Diabetes & Exercise – A specialised exercise program to help people with diabetes control their blood sugar levels.

Beat the Betes is a 10 week exercise program designed specifically to help people who have type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance or impaired glucose tolerance.  The exercise benefits include improved glucose sensitivity, weight loss, and decreased chance of developing further chronic disease associated with diabetes.

The program consists of of an initial assessment followed by 8 weeks of group sessions and is concluded with a final assessment and development of a home based program. Alternatively if the patient wishes to continue they can enter one of our general group classes.

Beat the Betes plans to teach patients to be able to exercise safely and effectively in their own home or at their local gym on an ongoing basis. Health Studio offer support to the patients via face to face training sessions facilitated by an accredited Exercise Physiologist.

Beat the Betes includes 18 sessions in total.  These sessions consist of four supervised individual sessions, 12 group exercise sessions, plus one initial and one final individual assessment.

The program has been developed by, and is exclusive to, Health Studio.  A referral from your GP or specialist may be provided under Medicare.

Week 1 – 1 x initial assessment + 1 x individual session

Week 2 – 2 x individual sessions

Week 3 – 2 x group sessions

Week 4 – 2 x group sessions

Week 5 – 2 x group sessions

Week 6 – 2 x group sessions

Week 7 – 2 x group sessions

Week 8 – 1 x final assessment + 1 individual session (home program)
